Original plan was to scan the reservoir before heading up to the moors. As the mist moved in as I headed up here and stayed for most of the morning I spent 3 hours around here from 8.45am.
All woodland paths checked whilst everywhere else was fogbound. Not a lot about the best being :- 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 3 Song Thrushes, 1 Nuthatch, numerous Goldcrests & Chaffinches, 1 Lesser Redpoll.
About 10am the mist moved away from the farmland above the reservoir so I headed up to Edge Lane :- 1 Buzzard, 1 Skylark, 27 Redwings, 1 Blackbird, 1 Song Thrush, 49 Carrion Crows, 3 Rooks, 2 Magpies, 5 Goldfinches.
Back at the reservoir viewing was still down to about 20 yards, but around 11.20am it started to clear. Finally all clear after a sleet shower. 8 Cormorants 15 Grey Herons 21 Canada Geese 25 Mallards 3 Black-headed Gulls
Heronry back in business. Very noisy in that area with 8 birds back. 3 Cormorants 31 Mallards 44 Black-headed Gulls
Hardly anything around the woods so I headed up the field to Edge Lane. Meadow Pipit & Reed Bunting on the way up there.
Nothing much along Edge Lane but just before Edge Fold there was a Buzzard in a tree.
At Edge Fold there was a Kestrel in a tree. A Nuthatch was nearby. A Raven flew over.
2 Moorhens by a frozen pond heading to Broad Meadow Farm. Unfrozen pond near the farm had 6 Mallards & 3 Moorhens. Usual stuff in this area included a few Chaffinches, Greenfinches, Goldfinches, & Bullfinches.
